Helpful, but not without its problems
By Spirito
By and large this book is an easy read for experienced admins who want to learn about the new features found in Server 2012, although I would say it is geared more toward the novice than the seasoned professional. The writing style is clear, and Mr. Tulloch does a good job of backing up new concepts with examples and illustrations. I found the section explaining IPv6 especially helpful - though it didn't dispel all of my fogginess in understanding the new protocol. Also, there is a heavy emphasis on PowerShell throughout the book that may be helpful to those already experienced with it.
My biggest gripe is that the book has a lot of errors, which can be somewhat expected from a new book. However, the volume of errors is still quite striking from what I would expect from a Microsoft book. Most of the errors are minor and can be picked up right away, but some are more serious and required me to reread the paragraph several times before realizing either that opposite terms were swapped or the wrong term was used altogether. The most glaring errors are found in the review questions sections at the end of each section. Many of the revealed answers are wrong, which can be especially frustrating. Speaking of the review questions, many of the questions can be quite obscure and appear to pull from material not found in the book.
I realize that the erata is made available online, but that shouldn't be a license for sloppy editing. Given the many errors, the frequency at which one would have to check back against the online erata would be tedious to say the least.
I would have given it four stars had it not been for the errors, and five stars had it been more geared toward exam prep.

yeah...if I could do it all over again, I would skip this book

I read this and the "official" exam reference for 70-410 by Craig Zacker, combined with Kaplan's SelfTest software for 70-410 and felt truly confident that I would be ready to pass on the 1st try. I could not have been more wrong.
It could be that I didn't spend enough time in the hotseat, behind the wheel of the exercises and would mentally run through them relying on the images presented in the text--maybe.
The general consensus seems to be that these texts will leave you overwhelmingly unprepared for passing the exam.
The training guide is technically better at preparing you and does also satisfy the scholastic requirements at a conceptual level but not the academic-examination level when it comes time to make the grade.
I have read so many bad reviews but I just thought I was smarter than the other test takers...arrogant me, right? I've aced Cisco exams before using similar methods and I prepared a lot more diligently for this.
This title in addition to the other, aforementioned, title are crap for exam prep.
Mike Ferrara, who has a site about tips for passing 70-410 hit it on the head when he described these two resources as "somewhat decent", and I would underscore somewhat with extreme emphasis.
He recommended the Inside Out book, a whopping 1584 pages--comparable to the Sybex guide for all three exams. He said it literally covers EVERYTHING but might approach it with overwhelming detail. Well in the case of sufficiency--I'll take what appears to be overwhelming but proves to be, in fact, perfectly-adequate.
From somebody who's failed the 70-410,these books are okay, but I would not rely on them solely for exam preparation. So if you're anything like me and think in terms of efficient management of time--I would research the efficacy of the Sybex MCSA consolidated prep book or the Inside Out version recommended by Mike Ferrara--I'm putting my hopes on the latter. I'm about to restart the whole process using Inside Out--yay!
Just a tip, ensure you are EXTREMELY-FAMILIAR with the interfaces of ALL technologies covered. DO NOT take familiarity lightly, Microsoft is emphasizing examination of candidate knowledge of their interfaces. I'm saying you need to know the node structure of their management interfaces, the context menus, the tabs of where you would configure one particular option.
They are also testing management of server configuration for workgroup servers.
UPDATE 08OCT2013
Windows Server 2012 Inside Out is a bust...after failing attempt no. 2 by backfilling my weak-area gaps, I found that insufficient.
Now I've resorted to Visual CertExam and compilation questions which are quite accurate compared to the actual exam questions. Some might consider that immoral but if you study in training mode and read the technet articles for the questions, it's the same thing as reading study guides and it's far more comprehensive and robust in terms of knowledge base.
I think that will prepare you far better than any of the published material right now. Shame on Microsoft for testing at levels which are not covered in their exam study guides. Why even associate them with the exam if they're insufficient?! It would be more apt if they just called these introductions and had no allusions to "exam prep."

Lots of Errors
By Kully3xf
I've been self studying for the exam, and I'm using this book. I take the lesson review questions after every chapter, and have caught my self off guard a few times now with the answers being wrong. Example, the book says "which of the following ad admin tasks can you NOT perform in ADAC" it gives 4 answers, three of which you CAN perform in ADAC, as they are all listed in the previous page under "Tasks you can perform using ADAC", then in the answers page, it says the correct answer is C, Enabling the active directory recycling bin. This is something you 100% can do in ADAC; the answer says "Correct: You Can use ADAC to enable and use the Active Directory Recycle Bin", when the actual correct answer is B "Incorrect: You Cannot use ADAC to delegate admin control etc. etc."
This book is full of contradiction errors such as this, and it's quite confusing when I have to prove the book wrong to assure my self I am correct.
