Great book highly recommended

I was intrigued about Witchcraft and read another book on the subject by this author. It was a great book which led me to this complete guide to Witchcraft. If you want to explore the positive nature of witchcraft then this book is for you. It is filled with simple spells and charms that anyone can do with a little practice. It is well written and organized, and clearly written by someone with a deep knowledge of the topic. Highly recommended.

A good starting guide of magic!

The book is an interesting read. It informs people about the true meaning of witchcraft. One of the points of the book is to channel the inner power that everyone has. To cultivate this inner power. Most people think that “witchcraft” would resort to evil work and doing things that are immoral and bad, but in reality witchcraft is love for nature and being one with nature. The true nature of witchcraft is the optimistic personality everyone should have. As the book suggested we should “just make it happen”. In a way witchcraft is connected with the law of attraction and the will of a person to attract and create the power of good in his or her life. This book is highly recommended for its informative, fun and creative way of showing that witchcraft is something that we should give a chance to understand it's powers.

Witchcraft - It's neither black nor white

This book is great, and it really speaks to me.
It promotes a strong message which I've always believed in, which is that witchcraft is neither black nor white. It's all in how you use it that makes the difference.
I like the clarity and simplicity of this book, everything is easily understood.
The rituals and spells are explained completely and simply, which is great for anyone experienced or beginner.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in this kind of thing!

About the Author
Douglas Medin (Ph.D., University of South Dakota) taught at Rockefeller University, University of Illinois, and University of Michigan before assuming his position as CAS Visiting Committee Research and Teaching Professor at Northwestern University. Best known for his research on concepts and categorization, his recent research interests have extended to decision making and cross-cultural and development studies of categorization and reasoning. He teaches courses in cognitive psychology, psychology of thinking, decision making, and culture cognition. He has been editor of the journal Cognitive Psychology and currently edits the Academic Press Psychology of Learning and Motivation series.

Brian Ross received an S.B. in psychology from Brown University and an M.A. from Yale University before receiving his Ph.D. from Stanford University. His teaching career has been at the University of Illinois, where he is Professor of Psychology at the Beckman Institute. His research has examined issues in categorization, problem solving, learning, and memory, and he was associate editor of the journal Memory and Cognition. He teaches courses in cog nitive psychology, the psychology of thinking, problem solving, mathematical models of memory, and introductory statistics.

Arthur Markman received his M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Illinois after completing his S.B. in cognitive science at Brown University. He worked at Northwestern University and Columbia University before moving to the University of Texas at Austin, where he is an associate professor in the psychology department. He teaches courses in cognitive psychology, research methods and statistics, cognitive science, and knowledge representation, and he supervises the honors program. His research has explored similarity, categorization, and decision making. His book, Knowledge Representation, was published in 1999.

About the Author

James N. Butcher was born in West Virginia. He enlisted in the Army when he was 17 years old and served in the airborne infantry for 3 years, including a 1-year tour in Korea during the Korean War. After military service, he attended Guilford College, graduating in 1960 with a BA in psychology. He received an MA in experimental psychology in 1962 and a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, in 1990 and an honorary doctorate from the University of Florence, Florence, Italy in 2005. He is currently professor emeritus in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota. He was associate director and director of the clinical psychology program at the university for 19 years. He was a member of the University of Minnesota Press’s MMPI Consultative Committee, which under-took the revision of the MMPI in 1989. He was formerly the editor of Psychological Assessment, a journal of the American Psychological Association, and serves as consulting editor or reviewer for numerous other journals in psychology and psychiatry. Dr. Butcher has been actively involved in developing and organizing disaster response programs for dealing with human problems following airline disasters. He organized a model crisis intervention disaster response for the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport and organized and supervised the psychological services offered following two major airline disasters: Northwest Flight 255 in Detroit, Michigan, and Aloha Airlines on Maui. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Personality Assessment. He has published 55 books and more than 200 articles in the fields of abnormal psychology, cross-cultural psychology, and personality assessment.

Jill M. Hooley is a professor of psychology at Harvard University. She is also the head of the experimental psychopathology and clinical psychology program at Harvard. Dr. Hooley was born in England and received a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Liverpool. This was followed by research work at Cambridge University. She then attended Magdalen College, Oxford, where she completed her D.Phil. After a move to the United States and additional training in clinical psychology at SUNY Stony Brook, Dr. Hooley took a position at Harvard, where she has been a faculty member since 1985.

Dr. Hooley has a long-standing interest in psychosocial predictors of psychiatric relapse in patients with severe psychopathology such as schizophrenia and depression. Her research has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and by the Borderline Personality Disorder Research Foundation. She is currently using fMRI to study emotion regulation in people who are vulnerable to depression and in people who are suffering from borderline personality disorder. Another area of research interest is non-suicidal self-harming behaviors such as skin cutting or burning.

In 2000, Dr Hooley received the Aaron T. Beck Award for Excellence in Psychopathology Research. She is currently the president of the Society for Research in Psychopathology. The author of many scholarly publications, Dr. Hooley is an Associate Editor for Applied and Preventive Psychology. She also serves on the editorial boards of several journals including the Journal of Family Psychology, Family Process, and Personality Disorders: Theory, Research and Treatment.

At Harvard, Dr Hooley has taught graduate and undergraduate classes in introductory psychology, abnormal psychology, schizophrenia, mood disorders, psychiatric diagnosis, and psychological treatment. Reflecting her commitment to the scientist-practitioner model, she also does clinical work specializing in the treatment of people with depression, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders.

Susan Mineka, born and raised in Ithaca, New York, received her undergraduate degree magna cum laude in psychology at Cornell University. She received a PhD in experimental psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, and later completed a formal clinical retraining program from 1981–1984. She taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and at the University of Texas at Austin before moving to Northwestern University in 1987. Since 1987 she has been Professor of Psychology at Northwestern and since 1998 she has served as Director of Clinical Training there. She has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including introductory psychology, learning, motivation, abnormal psychology, and cognitive-behavior therapy. Her current research interests include cognitive and behavioral approaches to understanding the etiology, maintenance, and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. She has served as Editor of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology (1990–1994). She is currently serving as an Associate Editor for Emotion, and is on the editorial boards of several of the leading journals in the field. She was also President of the Society for the Science of Clinical Psychology (1994–1995) and was President of the Midwestern Psychological Association (1997). She also served on the American Psychological Association’s Board of Scientific Affairs (1992–1994, Chair 1994), on the Executive Board of the Society for Research in Psychopathology (1992–1994, 2000–2003), and on the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Society (2001–2004). During 1997–1998 she was a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford.

Just a great text book!

I bought this book last year to review as core text book for my psychopathology course - it had everything I needed such as key concepts, solid examples, excellently organized, easy to follow and very thorough. I especially appreciated the lack of fluff and the focus on important concepts, diagnostic criteria and how it related to the DSM IV TR (at the time). This is an excellent book and I use to presently to review the concepts of mental illness, organization of mental disorders, and review of criterias for graduate level students. I have also incorporated the material in some fiction for my main characters. Excellent read and great text book.

Worst Textbook Ever

This textbook is full of errors. Not only grammatical, but there is several informational errors as well. It is extremely poorly written and I'm surprised that Butcher, Mineka and Hooley would allow their names be associated with it. I have considered contacting each of them to inform them of the awful mess that they have allowed their names to be associated with. Maybe when Pearson decides to publish the 15th edition, they'll hire me to ghost write instead of the schlubs that ghosted this edition. It is truly terrible.

Everything you need to know about psychiatric disorders and medicines.

There is so much information in this book about psychotropic drugs, their side effects, and reasons for their usage. I learned much about the use and risk of these drugs. There is also information about psychiatric disorders and very descriptive explanations of what these people undergo. Interesting information. I feel sorry for anyone who needs psychiatric care because their pain may be difficult to treat and the side effects of the medicines may be debilitating. An informative textbook that taught me a lot. I used it for my Abnormal Psych college class.

Sizzling Civil War Era Memoir

This was a fascinating glimpse into the Oneida community and an amazing find.
Tirzah Miller is the niece (and lover) of community founder John Humphrey Noyes and has access to the real inner circle of community leadership. You follow her various lovers (the marriage had 200 members and they practiced a form of 'complex' marriage that left Tirzah with MANY suitors) and the trials and tribulations of her love life in intimate detail. There are curious omissions in the memoir (which Fogarty points out in his thorough introduction)-- she doesn't chronicle the birth of her first child George (the offspring of one of her other uncles, born without the sanction of marriage leader Noyes) nor the death of the father of George's father (George, Sr. dies before the baby is born). You are not sure whether this was an omission on Tirzah's part or an omission made by the descendents who released the memoir to the public (more likely it was the descedents given Tirzah's candid style). And there are several gaps in the journal where Tirzah was working on the community newsletter and stopped writing. These omissions frustrate the reader a little, but obviously there is nothing Fogarty can do about it, except speculate on the reasons behind the omissions in the introduction and provide missing background info which compensates somewhat.
The material that Tirzah did choose to write about is both poignant and sensational! Not only was her uncle an avid promoter of incestuous relationships (he felt the devil was behind social mores prohibiting this), but she chronicles several other outlandish suggestions John Humphrey Noyes makes for improving the community sex life (like, live sex acts performed during the religious meetings- a plan he never actually implemented). But the real heart of the journal comes from her painful experiences falling in love with and losing the love of her life due to strict community criticism of 'special love' relationships. It is heart-breaking to see her turn her back on a man she loves, teach their child to revile him and public renounce him all for the sake of her uncle's rather un-natural influence over her.
By the end of the book you feel as if you have been introduced to and become the intimate acquaintance of a remarkable historical figure. Tirzah's memoir is basically the story of a modern woman (she had a job, serial lovers, daycare, short hair and wore a unique trouser outfit) only, shockingly, she lived in the civil war era. A must read for feminist history enthusiasts!

An Insider's View of Oneida

We can now read the memoir of a woman who lived in the famous Oneida community of the nineteenth century and did her best to live up to its principles. Tirzah Miller was born in 1843, and her unique memoir, published as _Desire and Duty at Oneida: Tirzah Miller's Intimate Memoir_, edited by Robert S. Fogarty (Indiana University Press), gives us a view of how some very strange sexual principles were practiced under Biblical inspiration. Miller's memoir was part of the Oneida archives, which were opened in 1993, and are fully printed here for the first time. There is useful editorial introduction and notes to prepare a reader for much of Miller's descriptions. Miller was the most important figure among the younger generation at Oneida, which had been founded by her uncle John N. Noyes, a prophet of "Perfectionism" which, among other things, entailed shared sexual relations in order to make jealousy impossible, and even planned breeding of humans to bring out the best traits in the young.
Tirzah Miller was involved in this sort of breeding, and writes about her participation. Her memoir tells about her doubts about Noyes, doubts which were always soothed by prayer so that she continued within the community. She was Noyes's favorite sexual partner, but had longings for others, and acted on them. Among the difficulties this caused was that there must not be any sort of "special love" analogous to marriage. Miller writes quite a bit about how she has to avoid this, and about her quarrels with Noyes, and about her liaisons with other community members.
Miller's memoir breaks off during the tumultuous end of the community. There had been raids on Oneida by ministers from the outside, shocked at its peculiar principles, but also Oneida was racked with internal dissention as members strove for more independence. Noyes declared that traditional Pauline marriage was now to be advised, and before the community broke up, Miller was able to abandon her worry that her love for the father of her third child was "too special;" she married him exclusively, and lived thereafter in apparent happiness. Her memoir is good reading to reveal a lively, thoughtful, and reverent woman, and throws welcome light on the innermost workings of a famous, failed social experiment.

Surreal.

I found this to be the most surreal book in the series. Maybe even the most imaginative. I love the idea of two worlds combining, resulting in changed landscapes and people. The book was a lot of fun to read, though Farland continues his annoying habits of omnipotent narration and not italicizing characters' thoughts. At one point, late in the book, he jumps between three different character POVs in just a few paragraphs. It left my head spinning, and not in a good way. Other than those complaints, I'm in love with this series.

I've read this entire series and I have to say that I liked the first couple of books much better than the the last ones. The story is not very cohesive from book to book after the first four. After the fourth book each one introduces entirely new characters that may have little or nothing to do with the previous book. Each book ends with too many unfinshed issues. Generally the first four books in this series is really well written and intersting, after that not so much.

Fantastic

Yet another fine entry into the runelords saga. This one follows Sons of The Oak and takes a fantastic plot delve of worldbinding proportions. If you enjoyed Sons of The Oak (the first of the new Fallion-led storyline) then this one is a must read. I just finished it last night and I've already started Wyrmling Horde because I was so hooked into the story. Its a nice piece.

They examine the relations between orthography and phonological form. While their focus is on contemporary morphology, they trace the history of phenomena wherever doing so helps to understand and explain current form and function. The final part of the book shows how the data assembled within it bear on current theoretical issues and reveal new lines of research. This outstanding book will interest all scholars and students of English and of linguistic morphology more generally.

Laurie Bauer is Professor of Linguistics at Victoria University of Wellington. His books include English Word-formation (CUP 1983), Introducing Linguistic Morphology (2nd edn EUP 2003), Morphological Productivity (CUP 2001) and A Glossary of Morphology (EUP 2004). He is one of the editors of the journal Word Structure.

Rochelle Lieber is Professor of Linguistics at the University of New Hampshire and author of Deconstructing Morphology (Chicago 1992), Morphology and Lexical Semantics (CUP 2004), and Introducing Morphology (CUP 2009). She is co-editor with Pavol Stekauer of the Oxford Handbooks of Compounding and Derivational Morphology (OUP 2009 and 2013).

Ingo Plag is Professor of English Language and Linguistics at the Heinrich Heine University, D�sseldorf. His books include Morphological Productivity (Mouton de Gruyter 1999), Word-formation in English (CUP 2003), and Introduction to English Linguistics (with co-authors, Mouton de Gruyter 2009). Barry Windeatt is the author of a scholarly original-spelling edition of Julian of Norwich for OUP, forthcoming. He has written widely on medieval English literature and he has translated The Book of Margery Kempe for Penguin (1985) and Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde for Oxford World's Classics (1998).
