I really wanted to like this book but quite frankly

I really wanted to like this book but quite frankly, it is a coffee table book. Nice and pretty with glossy pages and designed more for the at home mom that has zero net experience and wants to learn Wordpress and start a blog. The front and back cover both exceed the width of the pages and have a fold back flap that makes it awkward to open and deal with book pages. Glossy pages with small print can be difficult to see and the glossy pastel colors do not help matters either. The TOC is a black background with white letters. Entirely poor use of color in the book as far as something designed to teach. As mentioned, more of a coffee table book.
Appears to be good knowledge in the book but if you already have a host or have experience in the internet world you can cut out the first 36 pages and go to chapter 5. I did, I even cut off the front and back covers to make using the book much easier. Information is presented in too wordy of a format. What can take two lines to explain ends up taking one or two paragraphs. I almost felt like a 5 year being taught wash his hands.
I gave up on the book at the end of chapter 5 and tossed it into the trash. If you need a coffee table book, then this is the one to buy. If you need something that actually tosses a lot of meat and potatoes knowledge at you in a concise manner and does it on paper that you can actually write on, then look to purchase a different book.

My favorite book on the subject....

I rented this book and completed it easily in 4 days (rather than a week end). Alanna really does an excellent job of not only covering the basics, she also anticipates very well any changes you'd like to make. Great info regarding upgrading themes as well. If I get stuck anywhere in creating my site, I intend to rent this book again.

Right on target!

This book makes setup and launching your own site very doable. I recommend it for anyone who needs to create their own site, and especially for print designers / artists who may not have entered the web coding realm. That is me, by choice. I have a blog and this provides a logical and achievable avenue to a functional and appealing website.
